The Class of 1978 Class Gift Effort:

The Lois and Ray Ackerman Scholarship

Hired in 1943 as the secretary to Dean Wayne Morse and acting Dean Orlando Hollis, Lois Ackerman became the face of the law school for 50 years.  Throughout her career, she directed and performed the function of Assistant Dean, Registrar, Admissions Officer, Recorder, Executive Assistant and Student Counselor.  In all, she served six deans and thousands of law students.  Her late husband Ray was employed for 30 years in Eugene public schools, first as a teacher and then as an administrator. Ray was never formally employed at the law school, but spent thousands of hours helping Lois with law school matters. The two of them personified how marital partners not only can complement the life's work of each other, but how the gentle aura of their cooperation can make life better for all of those around them.  Click here to see photos and videos honoring Mrs. A.

The Class of 1978 has created a $25,000 scholarship fund to honor "Mrs. A" and Ray.  With the help of Professor Jim Mooney and Dean Margie Paris, not only was Mrs. A surprised to receive this honor on October 10, 2008, but the Law School decided to convert this scholarship into its "General Scholarship Fund" In all, we were able to raise $4,368 by our 30th Reunion.  But we'd like to raise more!  Thus, any gift you can make between now and Dec 31 will count towards our Class Gift total.  What a great way to permanently honor the 2001 Meritorious Service Award winners - Lois and Ray Ackerman.  And we get to immediately help a deserving student!

For questions, contact Jay Klein.
