Remember how much debt you had when you graduated? It is no longer uncommon for law students today to incur a six-figure debt upon leaving law school. Nationally, public interest starting salaries average $31,000. It is not surprising that few new graduates can afford to practice public interest law. Many new graduates are forced to forego dreams of utilizing their degrees to ensure equal justice and take a job based primarily upon paying down student debt.
Oregon Law’s Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) is perhaps the most important method in which you can help address this problem. The LRAP aims to provide financial support to recent graduates working in public service who have significant debt-to-income ratios.
The Class of 1993 has decided to focus our Class Gift effort to help support the LRAP Program. Our goal is a 50% participation rate by December 31, 2008.
