Creation of an Endowed "Class of 1969 Memorial Scholarship"

Back in the late 1960s, the taxpayers of the state of Oregon primarily funded our professional education.  Between the fall of 1966 and the spring of 1969, when we graduated, we paid an average of only $500 a year in books and tuition.  Upon graduation, jobs were more plentiful than today and our JD degrees from the University of Oregon School of Law opened doors to opportunities that have been highly rewarding for the great majority of us - personally, professional, and financially.

Today, taxpayer support for our public institution has all but evaporated, so that law school tuition at the U of O is $22,328 for in-state students and $27,818 for out-of-state students.  And while student loans have become major-league burdens, jobs have become significantly less plentiful.

Which leads to our proposal:  If each of the living members of our class "repaid" a portion of our subsidy by pledging our average yearly tuition amount of $500 over a three year period, we would endow an $87,000 scholarship in the name of the Class of 1969.

The name of the scholarship will be the "Class of 1969 Memorial Scholarship" and will be dedicated to Millie Carmack, Jim Anderson, Ken Renner, A. Dean Owens, Robert Howe and other members of our class who have passed away.  Eventually all of us will be part of that group so we felt that now is a good time to start thinking about our legacy.

If you would like to join us in this effort, there are two ways to do so.  We suggest three contributions of $500 each year.  But you can make a contribution in one lump sum, monthly, quarterly or yearly.  Click the appropriate button below.

(in the "Designation 1" drop down menu on the form, choose "School of Law."  In the "Additional Comments" field, indicate "Class of 1969 Memorial Scholarship.")

You can also make a one-time contribution to this fund on the reunion registration form.

Lost Classmates

We've lost contact with the following alumni.  If you have information regarding their whereabouts, please contact Jay Klein or one of the Steering Committee members.  Thanks.
