Then...
And Now...

$10,000 to the Loan Repayment Assistance Program & $10,000 to the Dean's Fund
Between
the fall of 1986 and the spring of 1989, most of our class paid an average of
only $2,864 a year in tuition ($4,190 for out-of-state). The new
graduates in the Class of 2009 averaged $19,618 in tuition
($24,423 for out-of-state). Thus, many recent graduates who wish to
pursue careers in public service must forego these dreams in lieu of
higher paying jobs to repay these debts. The Law School has created
the Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) to provide financial
assistance to recent graduates working in public service who have
significant debt-to-income ratios. Each of the nine current recipients
receives a four-year $4000 forgivable loan to repay his or her student
loans.
The
members of the Class of 1989 are sufficiently committed to contributing to the LRAP that they've set a $10,000 fundraising goal by the end of 2009. We're hoping that 50 of you will commit to giving $200 to this effort either all at once or through four quarterly payments of $50. In recognition of reaching the $5000 mark, a
“leaf” will be engraved with "The Class of 1989" on the “Founder’s
Tribute” branch mounted in the law school’s main hallway. Please consider joining us in this worthy effort!
On
the on-line form, indicate the total amount you wish to contribute
under the "Designation 1" field. For multiple payments, select the
appropriate radio button under the "Gift Payment" section. The Dean's Fund Because of
the continued decrease in state funding of public education and the
increase in the need for financial flexibility, the steering
committee members of the Class of 1989's 20-year reunion committed to
the goal of raising $10,000 to support the law schools efforts through
the Dean's Fund. If 50 of us give only $200, we will achieve this goal
and provide needed support for the law school. Please consider joining
us in
this worthy effort.
