The Dean's Fund
In 1994-95, the cost of a year of legal education at the University of Oregon was $7,688 for in-state residents and $12,860 for out-of-state students. This fall, in-state Oregon Law students will pay a whopping $24,114 for the 2010-2011 school year. Out-of-state students will pay $30,113. This figure doesn't include the cost of living, books, bar exam study materials or other expenses.
Added to this is the fact
that only 8.5% of the University of Oregon's budget is provided by the
State of Oregon. The law school is essentially operating as a private
institution with a public mandate and mission. Thus, the law school and its students need your support more
than ever.
The Dean's Fund for Excellence
provides essential, unrestricted support that can be directed to
wherever needs are most urgent, including scholarships, faculty
research, student organizations, library resources, and important
initiatives of the dean. Because donations to this fund are at the Dean Margie Paris' list of urgent needs, the Steering Committee has decided to ask our classmates to support it. What would it take to reach 100% participation? $50 each? $25 each? $1 each? Whatever it takes! Several of us are committed enough to this effort to chip in $250, and we think that many of our classmates could do the same. So please give what you can.
You can also contribute to this fund on the reunion registration form.
