The Class of 1990 Public Interest Scholarship

For the Class of 1990, the total cost of a three-year legal education at the University of Oregon was only $8992 for in-state and $13,284 for out-of-state residents.
The current cost of one year of education is $24,114 for in-state students and $30,043 for out-of-state residents.  This figure doesn't include the cost of living, books, bar exam study materials or other expenses.

As we approach our reunion, the Steering Committee thought we had an opportunity to try something special. As you can tell by the above numbers, Oregon Law students’ financial situation is far more perilous than ours was at the time of graduation. Thus, we have decided to endow a Class of 1990 Scholarship. After much discussion, we felt a "public interest" oriented scholarship was the best choice.  Thus, our scholarship should go to a student (1) in good academic standing, (2) with significant debt, and (3) with strong involvement in public interest work. Thus, the scholarship will go to an academically sound 3L student (so the law school can assess the student's debt load closest to graduation) who can prove strong financial need. There is a clause in the scholarship that we have a strong preference for a student in the Public Interest Public Service Program (OLSPIF, Street Law, pro bono program, etc.).

How will we accomplish this?  To achieve the minimum level, we collectively need to raise only $5,000/yr. over five years. Other classes (1969, 1974, 1985) have achieved this within the past five years and we believe our class is big enough, successful enough, and philanthropic enough to succeed as well. We are asking for  multiple-year pledges of 3 or 4 figures. There’s no doubt we got a great deal on our education. Please join the Steering Committee to make this project successful.

You can also donate through the reunion registration page.

Neil Bregenzer Scholarship

Please recognize classmate Matt Kehoe for graciously endowing a scholarship on behalf of our late classmate Neil Bregenzer.  While endowing our class scholarship is of utmost importance, if you knew Neil and would like to honor his memory by supporting this fund, the law school will still count it as part of our overall class gift.
