Class of 1980 Scholarship

In 1980, the total cost of a three-year legal education at the University of Oregon was only $4,567 for in-state and $5,953 for out-of-state residents. The current cost of one year of education is $24,114 for in-state students and $30,043.  This figure doesn't include the cost of living, books, bar exam study materials or other expenses.

As we approach our reunion, the Steering Committee thought we’d try to do something special to assist the increasing financial burden that current law students face.  Our idea is to endow a “Class of 1980” scholarship.  To achieve the minimum level, we collectively need to raise only $5,000/yr. over five years. Other classes (1969, 1974, 1985) have achieved this within the past five years and we believe our class is big enough, successful enough, and philanthropic enough to succeed as well.  The classes of 1969 and 1974 lobbied their classmates to “repay” their tuition over a three-year period ($1500 and $3,054 respectively) and succeeded.  Since our tuition was a bit more than theirs, we thought we’d leave it up to you as to what you could contribute to this effort.  But multiple-year pledges of 3 or 4 figures would be appreciated.  There’s no doubt we got a great deal and should pay it forward.  Please join us in this effort.
